A performance about the deliberate urban and community replacement and renewal process that Alexandria currently undergoes. During this performance we would like to invite our audiences to discuss the following questions:
How can we describe Alexandria now? How can we describe what it has lost? How did the replacement and renewal process affect the city’s inhabitants? What about post-traumatic disorder? Where did the city’s image in the collective memory of its inhabitants go? Are we facing a new nostalgia project? Who is the contemporary local hero in the different Alexandrian neighborhoods? Who is the famous contractor in your area? How do children and teenagers perceive their local heroes? On what community values are kids being raised? What is the effect of change in urban space on the city’s inhabitants?…
The performance seeks to engage with these questions by offering an artistic environment that gives room to different city inhabitants to discuss the replacement and renewal process not just by silently watching, sympathizing, disagreeing with or personifying the character, but through inviting the audience to fully play the character by participating in a play reading especially made for this purpose, moderated by a professional acting trainer to coach the participating audience/ actors. Stage props, music, lighting and multimedia tools will be provided during the play reading. Each performance round will gather 10 audiences (5 Females + 5 Males)
